Simon Hayden Burton
I have drawn and painted most of my life, a passion that for the most part was interrupted for 30 years by a career as a Family/Systemic Therapist.
In April 2014 I decided to return to my artwork. I chose to develop upon my numerous scribbles that had decorated my therapy notes; scribbles that reflected the struggle of the human condition, the agony and despair, the joy and the miracles of recovery and repair.
As I developed my scribbles I chose to portray our world as mostly dark, not in a morbid sense but simply an absence of light. Against this ‘backdrop’ I like to reveal local light both from torches, light bulbs, the sun etc and the light we manifest between ourselves that also shapes our world. A complex world of magic and hope.
As time has past I have picked up my brushes again and now combine painting with my ‘scribbling’, paintings that reflect my experiences, still focusing on the struggle of the human condition, the agony and despair, the joy and the miracles of recovery and repair.
